In a swift response to a distress call, operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a local artisan, Lasan Osaze Erhabor.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the incident occurred on February 20, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m. when members of the public alerted the authorities to a burning corpse under a heap of sawdust.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Textile Mill division mobilized and deployed operatives to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Erhabor, a middle-aged artisan, with a gunshot wound on his back.
The suspect, a local vigilante in Benin, was taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Yamu assured that the suspect would be charged in court for murder upon completion of the investigation. The police spokesperson appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, and urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
