The National Union of Izon-Ibe Students (NUIS), the apex body representing over 10.9 million Izon-Ibe students across the nation, has unanimously and unequivocally condemned the barbaric and senseless killing and murder of one of its brightest and most promising students —Comrade Briggs Precious.
Comrade Briggs, a stalwart of the Union and a peace-loving final-year engineering student of Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Bayelsa State, had only recently signed out of the institution before he was tragically gunned down.
Speaking to Nigeria Daily Chronicles (NDA), the National President of NUIS, Sen. Comr. Josiah Temeoweimienbi Precious, expressed deep sorrow and mounting frustration, warning that the Izon-Ibe students will no longer remain silent while their leaders and members are targeted and killed. He recalled that only days ago, on the 30th of April, 2025, another promising final-year student, Comrade Oyabrade Peter Warebo of the Department of Laboratory Science Technology, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, was heinously shot dead by a local vigilante group.
Sen. Comr. Josiah, NUIS World-wide President
According to the President, “It is becoming a disturbing and deadly trend that final-year students and recent graduates of our association are being hunted, brutalized, and murdered without cause. These young leaders who have dedicated themselves to peace, unity, and development within the Union and the society at large are being killed with alarming impunity. We are not mourning just students—we are mourning tomorrow's leaders, our collective future.”
NUIS vehemently condemns these recurring acts of violence and views the murder of Comrade Briggs Precious as not only an attack on one life, but on the entire Izon-Ibe Nation. The Union demands swift and decisive action.
As such, we are issuing a one week ultimatum to:
1. The Management of Niger Delta University,
2. The Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command,
3. The Local Vigilante and Community Security Force of Amassoma, and
4. His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State,
to ensure the following:
1. Immediate launch of a full, transparent investigation into the murder of Comrade Briggs Precious.
2. Prompt arrest and public exposure of the perpetrators involved in this heinous crime.
3. Public assurance and concrete security measures to protect Ijaw students at NDU and across Bayelsa.
4. A state-supported, befitting burial for Comrade Briggs Precious.
Late Comrade Briggs Precious Failure to meet these demands within the stipulated time frame will leave the over 10.9 million Izon-Ibe students with no choice but to exercise their constitutional rights through mass mobilization and peaceful protest. We will shut down all academic and social activities in Niger Delta University and escalate our response across all institutions where our members are found until justice is served.
This Union shall not fold its arms and allow the systematic extermination of its brightest minds. An injury to one is an injury to all. If the blood of our students continues to be spilled without consequence, then the peace they have upheld will no longer be guaranteed.
We demand justice. We demand accountability. We demand safety.
Justice for Comrade Briggs Precious,
Justice for Comrade Oyabrade Peter,
Justice for all Izon-Ibe students.
Signed:
Sen. Comr. Josiah Temeoweimienbi Precious,
President, National Union of Izon-Ibe Students (NUIS)
