Sadiq Abacha, son of Nigeria's former military ruler General Sani Abacha, has fired back at former military President Ibrahim Babangida over claims made in his memoir. Babangida's book alleges that General Abacha played a key role in annulling the June 12, 1993, presidential election, which was won by Moshood Abiola.
In a Facebook post, Sadiq defended his father's legacy, saying he was a victim of envy and subtle betrayal. He expressed confidence that history will ultimately judge his father favorably. Sadiq quoted a Hausa proverb, reminding everyone that every action carries consequences."Duk Wanda yayi jifa a kasuwa"
However, not everyone shares Sadiq's views on his father's legacy. Critics, including Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, have accused General Abacha of brutal suppression and human rights abuses during his rule.
The debate surrounding General Abacha's legacy has been reignited by Babangida's memoir, sparking fresh discussions about Nigeria's political history.
