PDP SOUTH-SOUTH ZONAL CONGRESS: WIKE, URGE PARTY UNITY

By John Ogele

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South zonal congress held in Calabar on Saturday, with notable figures like FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former governor of Cross River Donald Duke, and re-elected South-South Zonal Vice Chairman Dan Orbih in attendance.

Orbih emphasized the need for party members to make sacrifices to revive and strengthen the party, citing the ongoing crisis as self-inflicted.  He stressed the importance of upholding the party's constitution and electing officers who will do the same.

Wike commended Orbih and his executive members for maintaining party stability despite challenges. However, he urged the party's leadership to speak truth to power to regain its lost glory. Wike also noted that this zonal congress would be the last to elect the Zonal Working Committee.

Duke encouraged PDP members in the zone to remain focused and committed to the party. The congress saw the re-election of immediate past zonal officers, who were returned unopposed.

The event was attended by former governors, National Assembly members, and other prominent party figures. The zonal executives consist of 10 members, plus six ex-officio members.
