NAOS WORLDWIDE CONDEMNS BLACKMAIL AGAINST ODIMODI COMMUNITY, URGES RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM

Odimodi, Delta State – June 2, 2025

Comr. Bekebebedougha Eric Ogokeme, NAOS National President

The National Association of Odimodi Students (NAOS Worldwide), under the leadership of Comrade Bekebebedougha Eric Ogokeme, has strongly condemned the widespread circulation of falsehoods and defamatory publications aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of the peace-loving Odimodi Federated Community and its notable leaders.

In a press release issued on Monday, NAOS Worldwide described recent media reports suggesting that the community was under siege by armed political thugs as "grossly misleading, malicious, and a calculated attempt to destabilize the unity and peace of Odimodi."

According to the student body, the allegations of arms importation, intimidation, and threats against residents are completely unfounded and do not reflect the true situation within the community. NAOS Worldwide emphasized that such claims appear to be part of a broader smear campaign by individuals pursuing selfish political interests at the expense of community cohesion.

“As students and intellectual ambassadors of Odimodi worldwide, we cannot fold our arms and watch while a few individuals, driven by personal vendettas, blackmail our community and its respected leaders. These stories are fabricated and intentionally twisted to stir unnecessary fear and unrest,” said Comrade Ogokeme.

He further warned that Odimodi’s peaceful history and communal integrity must not be sacrificed on the altar of propaganda.

The group noted that Mr. New-word Endoro, the community chairman, has always promoted peace and lawful engagement, even in the face of politically motivated allegations. His recent return to the community after fulfilling bail conditions was met with calm and order, contrary to the narratives being circulated online.

“There was no ‘lockdown’ imposed. What occurred was a traditional procession in line with long-standing cultural customs. Attempts to misconstrue our heritage and ceremonies as threats only show the depth of ignorance and desperation among the authors of these reports,” the statement continued.

NAOS National President

NAOS Worldwide has called on media outlets, civil society organizations, and the general public to approach reports concerning Odimodi with caution and objectivity. They emphasized the importance of verifying facts before publication, especially in sensitive matters that could inflame tensions.

“Let it be clear: Odimodi is not a haven for thugs, nor is it a community in chaos. It is a place of tradition, unity, and resilience. Any publication that suggests otherwise is not only dishonest but is a direct affront to our values,” the association declared.

They also urged law enforcement and relevant government authorities to investigate the sources of the defamatory content and take appropriate legal action against purveyors of misinformation intended to sow division.

In closing, Comrade Ogokeme reaffirmed NAOS Worldwide’s commitment to promoting peace, education, and youth development within Odimodi and beyond.

“We will defend the image of our community wherever we find ourselves. We stand for peace, not propaganda. And we call on all stakeholders to do the same.”
