A devastating incident has unfolded in Bauchi State, where a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu Danjuma, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
The arrest was made following a distress call received by the police, stating that a domestic dispute had turned violent. According to the Bauchi State Police Command's Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had been facing an ongoing dispute regarding the custody of their six-year-old daughter.
Wakil explained that despite initial discussions with Salamatu's family, which seemed to favor welcoming the child into their home, the husband later refused, heightening tensions between them. "The situation escalated drastically when Salamatu, feeling cornered by her husband's refusal and in a moment of heated argument, used a knife from their bedroom, resulting in a tragic outcome," Wakil stated.
Responding to the distress call, detectives from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to a Cottage Hospital in Bununu for immediate medical assistance. Unfortunately, the attending medical staff later confirmed the husband's death due to the injuries sustained.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and discreet inquiry into the matter. Following the investigation, appropriate legal actions will be taken, as stated by the PPRO. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help when needed.
