Twelve inmates have escaped from the Federal Correctional Center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, in the early hours of Monday. This was confirmed by the Kogi State Government through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.

Fanwo praised the swift actions taken by security agencies in response to the jailbreak, describing the escape as unfortunate. He assured the public that the state government is taking decisive steps to prevent any future incidents of this nature.

The Commissioner raised concerns about the manner in which the inmates escaped, noting that they reportedly used a tower to break free without causing any structural damage. This has prompted calls for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, track down the escaped inmates, and identify any potential internal collaborators.

Governor Ahmed Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work closely with the Federal Correctional Center and other relevant security agencies to prevent similar breaches from occurring in the future. Additionally, the state government reiterated its commitment to providing logistical support and other resources to federal security agencies to improve their operational capabilities.

While investigations are ongoing, the Kogi State Government reassured residents that the situation is under control. The government has urged citizens to continue their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority.
