TRAGEDY STRIKES BAYELSA AS 200-LEVEL STUDENT DROWNS OVER N300 BET

A devastating incident has occurred at the Federal University, Otuoke, in Bayelsa State, where a 200-level Chemical Engineering student lost his life in a tragic drowning incident at the Ekoli Creek in Yenagoa. The student, whose name has not been disclosed, reportedly drowned on Sunday morning while attempting to swim across the creek to fulfill a bet with his coursemates.

According to eyewitnesses, the student had placed a bet with his peers, wagering N300 that he could successfully swim across the river. However, as he was swimming, he suddenly went underwater and failed to resurface. Despite efforts to locate his body, the corpse remains unrecovered.

A student of the university, who wished to remain anonymous, provided a firsthand account of the incident. "Yesterday morning, a 200-level Chemical Engineering student made a bet with his coursemates to swim across the river. They all raised N300 each for the stake. As he was swimming, he dipped and he has not been seen after that. He is still missing up till now."

The university's Public Relations Officer, Ms. Mercy Ekott, was unreachable for comments, as she did not respond to calls to her mobile number. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Mohammed, acknowledged that he had not been briefed on the incident and could not provide the name of the deceased student. "I have no information on the incident," he stated, promising to provide updates as soon as he received any.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless behavior and the importance of prioritizing safety and responsible decision-making. The university community is in mourning, and the incident is likely to spark a renewed emphasis on student safety and well-being.
