A serving female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), George Oluomachi Miracle, has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, alumni associations, corporate organisations, government officials, philanthropists, and lovers of education across the country to support an ambitious education-focused intervention project at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, Abia State.

The corps member, who is currently serving at the school, has secured NYSC approval to execute a Personal Community Development Service (CDS) project valued at over ₦13 million. The project includes the construction and donation of 500 desks and chairs, establishment of a Press Club, provision of a Public Address System, and the organisation of debates and leadership development programmes for students.

According to her, the initiative was inspired by conditions she observed while carrying out her duties at the school. She noted that some students attend classes with personal chairs from home due to an inadequate number of desks and chairs, while others struggle to learn in overcrowded and uncomfortable classroom conditions.

Determined to make a lasting impact, she conceived a project that would not only improve the physical learning environment but also provide students with opportunities to develop leadership, communication, public speaking, writing, and critical-thinking skills.

Speaking on the Press Club initiative, Miracle explained that it would serve as a platform for students to discover and develop their talents in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, and media communication.

She revealed that her passion for the project stems from her personal experience as a Press Club member during her school days, an experience she said greatly influenced her confidence, communication skills, and personal development.

Beyond the provision of classroom furniture, the project will also equip students with practical skills that will prepare them for future academic and professional opportunities.

The approved project has an estimated budget of ₦13,095,000, making it one of the most ambitious Personal CDS projects proposed by a serving corps member in the state.

To ensure its successful implementation, the corps member is seeking partnerships and support from old students, political office holders, community leaders, religious organisations, non-governmental organisations, educational foundations, corporate bodies, and public-spirited individuals.

Education stakeholders have described the initiative as a commendable example of youth-driven community service and a practical demonstration of the core objectives of the NYSC scheme.

As support continues to grow, many believe the project has the potential to transform the learning experience of hundreds of students and inspire similar interventions in schools across Nigeria.

Individuals and organisations willing to support the project are encouraged to partner with the corps member in her mission to improve educational opportunities and create a more conducive learning environment for present and future generations of students.

"Every child deserves a conducive environment to learn, dream, and succeed. Together, we can make that vision a reality."
