The National Union of Izon-ebe Students (NUIS) Worldwide has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Ijaw individuals into key positions in his government. Sen. Comr. Josiah Temeoweiemiienbi Precious, the 61st National President of NUIS Worldwide, in an exclusive interview with Nigeria Daily Chronicles today 27th of February 2025, expressed confidence in these appointments, citing the capabilities and contributions of the Ijaw people to the nation.

"We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing our sons and daughters into his government," Josiah said. "The appointments of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri as Minister for Petroleum Resources (Oil) State, High Chief Dennis Otuaro PhD as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, and Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku as MD/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) are a testament to the Ijaw people's capabilities and contributions to the nation."

Josiah emphasized that these appointments demonstrate the Federal Government's commitment to inclusive governance and the development of the Niger Delta region. "As students, we are particularly excited about the potential impact of these appointments on our communities and the nation at large," he said.

The NUIS president also praised the leadership of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, headed by High Chief (Dr) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, for its role in safeguarding oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta region. "High Chief Tompolo's efforts to protect our environment and ensure the smooth operation of oil and gas facilities are commendable," Josiah said. "His leadership is a shining example of the Ijaw people's commitment to responsible resource management and community development."

Josiah further noted that the Ijaw people have been at the forefront of the struggle for resource control and self-determination in the Niger Delta region. "As students, we are committed to continuing this struggle and ensuring that our communities receive the benefits they deserve from the nation's resources," he said.

However, Josiah expressed concern about the negative remarks and criticisms leveled against Ijaw leaders and appointees by some members of the Ijaw community. "It is unfortunate that some of our own people are quick to criticize and pull down our leaders, rather than supporting and celebrating their achievements," he said.

Josiah quoted the words of Nelson Mandela, who said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." He emphasized that the Ijaw people must learn to support and uplift each other, rather than tearing each other down.

"We must stop the needless attacks against our people and instead focus on negotiating a better deal for our nation," Precious said. "Resource control and self-determination are our key agitations, not fighting one another."

The NUIS president concluded by calling on Ijaw students to remain united and focused on their goals, and to continue supporting the leadership of the Ijaw nation. "We must work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and our communities," he said. "We owe it to ourselves, our parents, and our ancestors to make a positive impact on our nation and the world at large."
